Nitrous Oxide
Professional dental care is an important component to optimal health and wellness. Dr. Valerie Fuller has created an environment in her Marietta, GA dental office in which patients can sit back and relax. With just four treatment rooms, patients can feel the comfort and discreetness of a private setting while being attended to by a friendly, professional dental team.
We understand that a well-appointed, quiet dental office may not be enough to calm the anxieties that some patients feel. In order to facilitate the best possible dental experiences for our patients, Dr. Fuller has included sedation services using nitrous oxide for those who prefer to breeze right through their visits.
Nitrous oxide has been used as a sedative and pain reliever for well over a hundred years, and remains an excellent choice for dental patients who feel anxious or who would like to complete several procedures in a single visit.
Like other sedatives, nitrous oxide limits the effect of external stimuli on the central nervous system. Due to its gaseous form, this sedative takes effect more quickly than oral sedatives and is a bit more predictable. Throughout treatment, we are able to communicate with the patient to ensure he or she is feeling comfortable and relaxed. If necessary, adjustments to dosage can be made with a near-immediate result.
Nitrous is delivered in combination with oxygen through a comfortable unit worn over the nose. The sedative has no odor and may produce a slightly sweet taste as it takes effect. In just moments after administration, patients begin to feel extremely relaxed. Some patients feel comfortably warm and very happy, even euphoric. Due to this feeling of relaxation for some patients it leads to giggles, because of this nitrous has been referred to as "laughing gas."
One of the several advantages of nitrous oxide as a sedative for dental care is the quickness in which the effects of this medication decrease. At the point in which treatment is done, we increase the delivery of oxygen and stop the delivery of nitrous. Within just a few minutes, full alertness is reached. It is safe to drive after treatment in which nitrous oxide is administered.
We want our patients to experience the benefits of consistent, gentle dental care. Call (770) 977 7757 to arrange your visit with Dr. Valerie Fuller.
