Eczema, sometimes called atopic dermatitis, results in red, itchy skin. This inflammatory condition can be a chronic issue for patients, and typically develops in early childhood. However, adults can develop atopic dermatitis and may notice it occurs with certain triggers.What causes eczema?
The causes of eczema are unknown. It has not been determined if it’s arrival is linked to genetics or if it is due to specific environmental exposures. However, it may become more noticeable with triggers. Triggers for eczema may include:- Environmental changes
- Sunlight exposure
- Exposure to products such as certain soaps or creams
- Stress
What treatment is available for eczema?
Most patients respond well to eczema treatments that involve topical creams and antibiotics. These creams are used on the areas where eczema occurs to calm them and provide relief from the itching and uncomfortable feeling these flare-ups can cause.
