A: General anesthesia would be an unreasonable risk to take for such a mild procedure. We now have wonderful topical anesthetics that dull the initial stick. Restylane L has added lidocaine, so the injections of the hyaluronic acid will not be felt. We even now use blunt tipped needles or "micro-cannulas" so you really only feel pressure. A little verbal reassurance and hand holding should be the only other things you may need. I have found that closing the eyes, or looking up will prevent you from seeing the approaching syringe.
Q: The bluish-reddish discoloration under my eyes is really bothering me. If anyone could recommend a treatment (if a treatment is possible) or point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it.
A: If the discoloration is bluish, that is highly suggestive of sinus congestion and allergies. The blue is from venous congestion backing up blood flow from under the thin skin here. It is more noticeable in persons with sun damage that thins the skin and allows the color to show through. Using Renova and Lumierre eye cream at night and Lumierre and Sunscreen during the day is an important step to strengthen and thicken the skin. Using antihistamine/decongestants regularly should help reduce the inflammation and swelling. Regular use of saline nose spray, saline eye drops and the Netty Pot will all flush particulate allergens from the mucous membranes and sinus track to reduce allergy symptoms. Finally, some strategically placed Restylane, injected with a blunt cannula can fill in the indentation that accentuates the discoloration.
