Most
of us believe that acne is a disorder that affects only teenagers.
Unfortunately, this is not the case. Controlled by oil glands and
hormones, acne can also be influenced by other factors including stress,
diet and makeup. |

"So
I just get happier and happier with my SWCA experience! It's been a
little over a week and the addition of the toner has made a tremendous
difference. Oiliness has been knocked down substantially, even on
Saturday when I was outside allllllll day in the sun at the football
game.
Thank you! So glad you're my doc. Best dermatology experience I've ever
had!!!

Happy Monday!"

Did you know there is a skin cancer you may not be looking for? |
Here is some information you will want to pass on to your friends and family.
Some melanomas don't grow in diameter, they grow in depth instead, and
can be more deadly. A cancer called nodular melanoma doesn’t look like a
typical cancerous mole. These cancers don’t follow the rules and tend
to be more dangerous. This type of cancer goes undiagnosed in 14 percent
of the cases and 37 percent of these cases end in death.
If you are aware of only the typical signs of melanoma, you may be at risk of missing a nodular melanoma.
Most people know to look for the ABCD characteristics of moles:
Asymmetry, Borders, Color and Diameter. In order to recognize a nodular
melanoma you must also look for the EF and G: Evolving, Firm and Growing
rapidly.
If you have any spots that worry you or look suspicious, you should see
Dr. Hartman for an evaluation and biopsy. Don’t take any chances with
this dangerous skin cancer.

What Causes Acne? |
Many
individuals believe that acne is a teenager's problem. But in
actuality, there are many who suffer from adult acne in their older
years. In fact, studies have shown that you can be genetically
predisposed to experiencing acne, inheriting it from parents or others
in the family history that may have suffered from acne.
Acne is caused by a number of different factors. Two of the most
important, determining factors of acne development are hormones and
genetic disposition. Hormones, especially those during pregnancy or
menstrual periods, can cause women to experience acne flare-ups for
several days at a time. Genetics can play a part as to your likelihood
of developing acne. However, there are other things that can cause acne
outbreaks, or contribute to the cause. Certain medications and drugs
can contribute to acne breakouts, as can cosmetics, which is why it is
highly recommended that acne sufferers limit the amount and type of
makeup that they use on their face. Read more
