Restylane/Perlane/Juvederm
Some people call them smile lines. Some people call them parentheses. Dermatologists call them nasolabial folds. Whatever your choice of words, the lines on the lower part of the face that frame the mouth are rarely welcome when they appear. Sun tanning, smoking, heredity and aging can all contribute to the development of this problem. Juvederm, Restylane and Perlane are dermal-fillers composed of a natural chemical in the human body called hyaluronic acid. When it is injected to these areas which have lost that youthful volume, it replaces a substance that is lost over time as part of the aging process.
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is an FDA-approved and naturally occurring chemical. HA's natural role in the skin is to transport nutrients and aid hydration by holding water. Hyaluronic acid is a hydrating substance that reduces wrinkles and fine lines by plumping the skin and protecting the skin from trauma by acting as a cushion.
Juvederm, Restylane or Perlane injection is a procedure with few risks, little pain and minimal downtime. The procedure is generally performed in less than thirty minutes in the office. Redness at the site of the injection can be expected, as well as minimal bruising that only lasts 3-4 days. The actual procedure may cause a stinging sensation or mild irritation that lasts only as long as the procedure is being performed. The effect of the treatment is evident immediately and lasts up to twelve months. Since these dermal fillers are composed of the same substance that makes up the deeper layers of skin, allergic reactions are exceedingly rare and testing prior to the treatment is not necessary.
At the Skin Wellness Center of Alabama, Dr. Corey L. Hartman, a Board Certified Dermatologist, performs Juvederm, Restylane and Perlane treatments after carefully reviewing each patient’s individual medical history. Since Juvederm has not been tested for safety in pregnant women or those with suppressed immune systems, it is not to be administered to patients in those states.
It is important to understand that at the Skin Wellness Center of Alabama, Dr. Hartman always uses Restylane and Perlane that were made for use here in the United States. Our priority is your safety and pleasure with the cosmetic result of this elective treatment.
