Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain Veneers are thin layers of porcelain bonded to the front of a tooth. The porcelain is very strong and does not stain. Porcelain Veneers are used to treat a number of dental problems that will improve your smile as well as your bite since your teeth will be in proper position. These problems can include crowding, discoloration, crooked, or chipped teeth. Porcelain Veneers can also be used to treat patients who are showing too much gum or who have broken down teeth due to aging. Porcelain Veneers can benefit anyone who would like to enhance their smile and improve the color of their teeth.
Patients who have received porcelain veneers has shown an increase in self confidence and smile more often. Dr. Alex Basti had been a witness to this and found it rewarding when a patient of his cried after they got their veneers, and stated that after 45 years he was able to smile again.
There are two procedures through which porcelain veneers can be done.
The first option is through the traditional system where an impression is taken of the affected tooth or teeth and then sent to lab for fabrication. While the patient waits for the veneers to be completed, a temporary veneer will be given to wear. Once completed, the patient returns for a second visit one to two weeks later, and then the veneers will be bonded to the teeth. For patients who have a problem with their bite, they may need to wear a night guard to safeguard the veneers at night to avoid chipping or breaking.
The other option of doing porcelain veneers is through a system called CEREC. Dr. Alex Basti and Dr. Nina Basti have been using CEREC for over 10 years. With CEREC technology, they are able to do the veneers in just one visit as all the necessary equipments are there in the office. First they will prepare the teeth and obtain all the required information. Then the machine makes the veneers, which takes two to three hours. After that, Dr. Basti will cement the veneers onto the teeth. No temporaries are needed with this system, and the patient need not fear of losing the temporary veneers. This smile makeover is quick, efficient and can be done in one appointment.
