Who is a good candidate for this procedure?
Men and women of all ages with genetic hair loss (androgenetic alopecia), especially if the hair loss is recent. Those with hair loss caused by other conditions such as thyroid, lupus, or autoimmune factors, are not good candidates. The procedure will also not work in completely bald or scarred down areas.
How is the procedure performed:
A small amount of blood is drawn from the patient, and then a centrifuge is used to isolate platelet rich plasma (PRP). Platelet rich plasma contains many growth factors active in wound and soft tissue healing. This platelet rich plasma is then injected back into the patient’s scalp in a process known as autologous injection. This processes stimulates the hair follicles to grow healthy new hair!
How many treatments are needed and when will i see results.
Three to four treatments are recommended initially, at monthly intervals, and then maintenance treatments twice per year. Results usually are apparent at 4-6 months, with continued improvement on the maintenance regimen.
Is it painful and what is the recovery?
We use various techniques to decrease any pain involved in the procedure, ranging from topical numbing creams to a cooler that blows cold air to decrease any sensation of pain. There may be a slight stinging/burning sensation with the injections.
