- Stay in shaded areas, especially on sunny days between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm.
- Avoid sunburn by wearing broad spectrum sunscreen (UVA/UVB).
- Cover up with clothing when out in the sun, reducing overall exposure in high risk areas such as the face and shoulders.
- Use sunscreen regularly, applying approximately one ounce to the body 30 minutes prior to sun exposure and every two hours afterwards.
- Keep newborns from sun exposure, and only use sunscreen on babies six months or older.
- See a dermatologist for a head to toe skin cancer screening every year.
- Avoid using tanning beds or booths.
- Check your skin at least once a month for changes in skin tags, moles, or wounds that are not healing properly.
