In most areas around the world, people have ample opportunity, and reason, to spend time enjoying the sunlight. We’ve reached a point, however, where we have adopted the mindset that tanned skin enhances our appearance, making us the picture of health and vitality. In reality, the ultraviolet rays that come from the sun, as well as tanning beds, does nothing to promote the health of the skin. In fact, it is the fastest way to damage this large organ, leading to hyperpigmentation, rough, leathery texture, and lines and wrinkles, not to mention the increased risk of skin cancer.
Spending a little time in the sunshine is good for the mind, body, and soul. Under UV rays, melanin production is slightly increased, and the skin darkens. Too much exposure to these rays, however, and an excess of melanin is produced, leading to the dramatic downfall of truly healthy skin.
