Dr. Christine Lee gave the Keynote Plenary session laser talk at the summer AAD meeting in Chicago on Friday, August 8, 2014 entitled, "Laser Update: Practical Applications for Dermatology". She unveiled new groundbreaking laser procedures during this talk.

American Society of Dermatologic Surgery Recognizes Local Physician for Her Work in Patient Safety Issues
WALNUT CREEK, CA, Jan. 7 – M. Christine Lee, M.D. has been selected to receive the 2008 President's Award by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery for significant contributions to the specialty of dermatology. The recognition is in appreciation to Dr. Lee for her efforts to increase public awareness concerning patient safety issues. Dr. Lee has been a tireless advocate for patient safety in the state of California. Having treated countless patients for complications they suffered at the hands of untrained non-physicians performing laser procedures in unlicensed clinics, Dr. Lee not only assisted those patients with their medical injuries, but also helped with their filing of complaints with state regulatory agencies. When those complaints went uninvestigated, Dr. Lee remained vigilant in pressing for follow-up, to ensure that more patients were not unnecessarily harmed. Dr. Lee devoted time away from her practice and family to offer compelling testimony at numerous Medical Board of California hearings. Always emphasizing the need for stronger regulations and for enforcement of existing regulation, Dr. Lee testified at legislative hearings on behalf of the injured victims. Dr. Lee's efforts to improve the safety for patients in California and her success at shining a spotlight on issues surrounding the non-physician and non-supervised practice of medicine justly earned her the recognition from her peers. The ASDS is proud to award Dr. Lee the 2008 American Society for Dermatologic Surgery President's Award.Min-Wei Christine Lee, M.D., M.P.H. is Board-certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology and further sub-specialized by completing a distinguished fellowship in Laser Surgery, Cosmetic Surgery, Mohs Micrographic Surgery/Skin Cancer/Facial Plastic Reconstruction, and Advanced Dermatologic Surgery from University of California, San Francisco. She is the Director of The Skin and Laser Treatment Institute in Walnut Creek, CA. Dr. Lee remains academically involved as Assistant Clinical Professor for the Department of Dermatologic Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco, by teaching residents and medical students, conducting research, and writing papers. She has authored numerous scientific articles and papers on laser surgery, cosmetic surgery, skin cancer, and dermatologic surgery. She is also the author of the book "The Ultimate Guide for the Best Skin Ever: Lasers". Sought out for her expertise in all matters of the skin, including the treatment of ethnic skin with lasers, Dr. Lee has been featured in many media outlets including The New York Times, USA Today, Washington Post, New York Post, Chicago Tribune, Sacramento Bee, Parade, In-Style, Allure, Glamour, Seventeen, Fitness, Self, Shape, More, Marie Claire, Elle, Woman's Day, CBS, NBC, Fox News, Lifetime Channel, and the Discovery Channel.

I can’t thank Dr. Lee and her staff enough. Dr. Lee did an amazing job of removing a very difficult basal cell carcinoma from my nose. She was honest and also gave me options, with all surrounding parameters, regarding the reconstruction. It was very scary, but Dr. Lee was reassuring and made me feel very confident in her knowledge and abilities. I am four weeks out from the surgery and my nose looks pretty darn good. After the nose surgery, her P.A., Megan, performed a whole body exam. She found three suspicious spots, biopsied them, and they indeed came back as bcc. As a proficient P.A., Megan proved her knowledge and ability with identifying these lesions and biopsying them. I would say that to consider her knowledge and skills as indicative of “deteriorating professional standards” (as another reviewer wrote of PAs performing biopsies) demonstrates ignorance at best of the education and training that PAs receive in order to undertake this work. Further, Dr. Lee’s entire staff demonstrated nothing but professionalism, competency, and – as a bonus – appropriate humor at important moments. I am grateful to have found Dr. Lee and her staff and, again, thank all of them for their fantastic work through a very scary time for me.
