Q: I absolutely do not want surgery but my upper eyelids are really drooping badly. What can be done to make them better?A: There are a few treatments that can be done together. Botox relaxation of the depressor muscles between the eyebrows and the outer eyebrows, filler such as Restylane in the outer eyebrows and Ultherapy lifting of the forehead eyebrow complex, and Thermage tightening of the upper eyelids all can be done to provide tighter and lifted upper eyelid skin. It can help but surgery is expected to provide a better result.
Q: I play the flute and have noticed many lip lines recently. Can I have Botox for this?
A: I would not recommend Botox for a musician of wind instruments. There is a possibility that the mouth muscle relaxation provided by Botox injections would interfere with your ability to play the flute well. You might consider filler such as Restylane or Botox. Sometimes, smoking history adds to the damage and sun exposure, especially blistering sun burns, can damage the deep dermis and the bad collagen and elastic fibers don't heal and contribute to more wrinkling. Then, on top of this, the repetitive muscular contractions of playing a flute and pursing the lips will “accordion” the skin and create deep lines.
Q: I had an eyelid lift four months ago and wonder if I can have Botox for my “11”?
A: The vertical frown lines between the eyebrows can be smoothened out with Botox injections. This can also help lift up the forehead slightly. If there is a mild lag of the upper eyelids when closing as a result of tightening from the surgical lift, you may need more time for the skin to loosen before Botox, otherwise at night while you're sleeping the eyes might be left open ever so slightly and this could cause dryness and corneal irritation and worse. Please see your eyelid surgeon to ask him or her, their advice.
