Botox™ - Related FAQ's

Q: My mom has very deep lines between the eyebrows on her forehead. Should I start getting botox now before the lines form?

A: That can be done, but as it is easy to treat them, and as Botox works very well on these lines, it would be fine to wait until you see them start to form in the future and then seek treatment.

Q: I have bad crows' feet and went to see a NYC doctor for Botox who said that all of them can't be treated. He treated the sides but didn't treat the lines under the eyes over the cheekbones, why?

A: Crow's feet, or lateral canthal lines, are composed of wrinkles in the skin that form as the muscle underlying the skin, contracts. The muscles in this area are the circular eyelid muscle that surrounds the eye, and the smile muscles that pull up on the corner of the mouth. The eyelid muscle can be treated on the side but usually not below the eye as that can interfere with the eyelid pump action and swelling or puffiness could increase.

Q: Is it common to have an allergic reaction to Botox?

A: It is so rare, that most physicians who have injected Botox since its inception for cosmetic use, are not aware of such reactions.

Q: I went to a new doctor and had botox in my forehead and now my upper eyelids are puffy. What can I do?

A: Depending on when it was done, there may be more drooping as the Botox becomes more effective in the first two weeks after the injections. Sometimes the forehead can be made to lift up a little thereby helping elevate the eyelids too by injecting the muscles of the forehead that pull down on the forehead. The glabella (the region in between the eyebrows) and the outer eyebrow areas are the sites where Botox can help lift the forehead.

Q: I am overseas and had bad botox treatment two months ago. How much longer will it take to have these new lines go away?

A: If the new lines are in fact, from the botox treatment by causing an overcompensation of adjacent muscles, it may take two more months as usually botox's effect is gone at four months.
