Q: If I have droopy upper eyelids can I get Botox to lift them up?

A: Yes, but it may not work enough for your condition and a surgical blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) might be needed. The Botox is injected in key areas that pull the forehead down and this helps relax those muscles so the natural lifting property of the forehead can work to raise the eyebrow and with that, the eyelid.

Q: Does Botox need to get mixed and Dysport comes ready to inject from the bottle. And if so, does it make a difference?

A: Both Botox and Dysport are mixed with sterile saline. The number of units delivered is different from Dysport to Botox with a ratio of about 2.5 -3 Dysport Units to One Botox Unit. Xeomin does not need to be mixed and it doesn't make a difference.

Q: Can I take my Motrin for arthritis after my Botox?

A: Yes. If you take it regularly, you might try to avoid it for a couple of days before and the day of Botox treatment until after the injections to minimize any chance of bruising. You can resume the Motrin after the Botox injections. However, this is not always possible and many patients end up having Botox injections while taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication without brusing much or at all. But should you plan on having Botox injections during the time you take blood thinners such as Advil, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Alleve, aspirin, etc. realize you may feel self conscious should a bruise develop. Sometimes makeup doesn't hide the bruise well and you may be upset if there is an important work or social function that you need to attend. In this case you may wish to book your Botox treatment two weeks before such an event. Some people take Arnica Montana to minimize the chance of bruising and swelling.

Q: Is there a change in the effect of Botox in cold weather?

A: There may be a temporary reduction in the blockage of the nerve muscle communication in very cold weather, but the Botox effect should resume when the skin warms up. This has not been well-studied.

Q: Can Botox ever treat 100% of crows feet lines?

A: Yes. Many patients have lines localized to the outer eyelid area with squinting. These lines are easily treated with Botox. The lines that start to go over the cheekbone and are present during active smiling are usually not treated but not all patients demonstrate these lines as part of the lower crows feet.
