Q: I had botox injected in my crows feet and love the result but I still have lines underneath my lower eyelids, why?A: Treatment of the lower eyelid skin is not part of the crows' feet and it can cause complications such as droopiness and dry eyes and swollen bags of fluid. There have also been cases of smile muscle weakness from injections near the cheek bone as doctors treat the crows feet and continue to inject as they move towards the lower eyelid and this affects muscles that can cause a problem with eating, speech and appearance during smiling.
Q: Can I have Botox injected to reduce the fat in my cheeks? I have a friend who had chubby cheeks and had Botox to do this.
A: Your friend might have had an enlarged chewing muscle, the masseter. This can be treated by Botox. You should not consider any fat reduction injections in the face until they are more extensively studied.
Q: If I have had Botox every 4 months for six years and suddenly stop, will my wrinkles quickly return?
A: Probably not. The lines diminish as the muscles stop contracting. When they resume active contraction, the skin starts to crease over the undulations of the muscle, but it would take a long time to redevelop the same creases one had prior to the first Botox.
Q: Why does my Botox last for four months but my friend complains that she has to go in for the same area to be treated as mine, but every two months?
A: Even if you are using the same doctor, it may be that she metabolizes it differently. There are some patients, that despite me using the same units or more, as the next patient with similar creases, that their Botox wears off consistently at two months. Certainly if there are different doctors taking care of you and your friend, then that adds another variable. Some doctors don't use as many units as others and this could be a factor in not having as long a duration.
