Botox™ - Related FAQ's

Q: I had Botox for my crow's feet done in NYC and now I see a new line near my lower eyelid. Will this be permanent?

A: Fortunately there should be no permanent sequela from having Botox as it is a temporary effect. There may be some pushing on the lower eyelid by the smile muscles of the cheekbone area which are now more apparent, but this will go away.

Q: If I had Botox in NYC two days ago, why can't I see improvement today?

A: Especially if this is your first treatment, but also if you are a seasoned Botox recipient, there can be up to two weeks of a duration before the peak effect of Botox is seen, sometimes even more.

Q: I just had Botox done in NYC by my doctor for my crows feet. Now I can't smile as big on one side. Is this going to be OK?

A: Fortunately muscle relaxation when related to Botox injections will go away in three to four months probably. The smile muscles near the cheekbone might have been affected by some of the Botox being injected near the lower corner of the eye. There is no antidote rather than awaiting patiently for time to correct it.

Q: If I had Botox in the glabella when I was in NYC, but still see some faint lines can I have a filler too?

A: If the muscles are not moving under the skin, then the Botox was successful. You might want to wait a few months, repeat the Botox so it doesn't wear off, and follow the appearance of the lines. The lines could be injected with Restylane, in small amounts, cautiously, as this is a zone in which some reported cases of necrosis have occurred. The treatment has provided very good results and the physician is careful to inject slowly, cautiously and not injecting large amounts. More viscous fillers than Restylane or Juvederm are not suggested as this increases the risk, and hyaluronidase can be used to dissolve the Restylane or Juvederm, but not Radiesse or Sculptra or fat.

Q: I had Botox done in NYC for my frown lines but I can't afford the next treatment in a few months. Should I ask my doctor to just use less units next time?

A: Botox is tailored to each patient based on their anatomy. If your muscles need the number of units used the last treatment then using less will create a less-than satisfactory result and it will not last very long.
