Botox™ - Related FAQ's

Q: Can I have Botox injected by my NYC dermatologist to smoothen out my wrinkles of the upper lip?

A: Yes. Sometimes patients who have had Botox injected to minimize the muscular contraction of the overlying skin prior to fillers or laser resurfacing, have found their lines to be so much better than before that no further resurfacing or filler injections were needed. On the other hand, those that need further treatment may need less fillers and the fillers may last longer. Resurfacing may provide a better result as the new skin that heals finds a smoother blanket upon which to heal.

Q: If Botox is injected into my neck, by my NYC derm, will in interfere with my sleep apnea?

A: I am not aware of this reaction. Depending on the number of units of Botox injected, there might be some diffusion, as rarely has been reported swallowing difficulty. Therefore there might be a problem with the pharyngeal component of sleep apnea if Botox is used at high doses in the neck, but I am unaware, to-date, of such reports.

Q: If I have hives starting four days after Botox in NYC, can I have it again?

A: Allergic reactions to Botox are almost unheard of, but you should not have it again until an allergist does testing and clears you to have the Botox.

Q: I had botox for my forehead and I now notice that my upper eyelids are heavy and it's hard for me to apply eyeshadow without raising my eyebrow. Will this go away?

A: Yes. The effects of Botox are not permanent. It will probably resolve in 12 to 16 weeks. The sagging forehead pushes the upper eyelids down and if Botox relaxes the upper forehead to make the horizontal creases look smoother, then this will push the forehead down more.

Q: I had Botox in NYC for my creases below the eyelids but I now have bags. Why is this?

A: Some people are prone to swelling or puffiness of the lower eyelids. Possibly allergies or sinus problems could be the cause. Usually the lower eyelid muscle contracts and helps pump the fluids away. If Botox is injected for an enlarge muscle but weakens the pump, then the fluids can back up and the lower eyelid can swell. This is not permanent.

Q: Is Dysport the same as Botox?

A: Clinically yes, although Dysport may have an onset of a day earlier than Botox. They both last around the same three to four months but the units used of one have to be adjusted for the other.
