CoolSculpting/Zeltiqâ„¢™ - Related FAQ's
Q: Are there smaller applicators for the CoolSculpting device that will allow doctors to treat different areas for fat reduction than those initially approved?A: The Zeltiq company has indicated there will be a smaller applicator than the 8, 6.3 and 6.2. I might be then able to use this smaller applicator on the loose skin above the elbow and knee, thigh, upper arm, and other off-label areas.
Q: Will CoolSculpting remove more fat from my love handles in three treatments than one treatment with liposuction?
A: No. Liposuction can remove more fat than CoolSculpting in one treatment. If someone had a large bulge to reduce, then CoolSculpting would be very inefficient. Although liposuction can remove more fat, not all people want the downtime, surgery, risks, etc. associated with liposuction.
Q: Do I have to worry that my washboard abs will get ruined when I get CoolSculpting on the love handles?
A: The CoolSculpting device does not harm or kill muscle cells, only the fat cells are susceptible to freezing-induced death.
Q: Can I have CoolSculpting for a bulge of fat in my tummy that wasn't cleared during my tummy tuck one year ago?
A: Yes, if it is fat and not redundant skin. On the other hand, your surgeon might prefer to do a small liposuction procedure as this can be more effective in removal of the fat than one CoolSculpting. You have to be examined to determine what is best for you.
Q: If I had CoolSculpting one week ago and now think I'm pregnant, should I be concerned?
A: Please don't be overly concerned. Get yourself checked out and if you are pregnant let the obstetrician learn about the freezing technology how it is limited to the subcutaneous fat and does not affect the ovaries or uterus. There have been no warnings by the company that there have been problems related to your question.
Q: If I have RSD of my lower abdomen, can I have CoolSculpting?
A: Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy is an accentuation of the pain, reflex, stimulus pathway and it is possible, that a procedure such as Zeltiq's CoolSculpting performed on an abdomen and not expected to cause chronic pain, could react differently in a patient that has RSD. Temporary pain, or nerve / skin sensitivity for a few weeks is not unusual after CoolSculpting, but it should not be months and months of intractable pain. I would be wary of doing CoolSculpting near an area affected by RSD as it may not act normally.
