CoolSculpting/Zeltiqâ„¢™ - Related FAQ's

Q: I am 20 years old, work out a lot and watch my diet. I don't want surgery but I want to get rid of my outer thigh. What can I do?

A: If you refuse to consider liposuction, then you might be interested in trying Zeltiq, CoolSculpting for fat reduction without surgery that involves freezing the fat. One hour of treatment, may reduce the volume of the fat by 20% at four months after treatment.

Q: If I had a C-section one year ago, can I have Zeltiq CoolSculpting?

A: Yes, unless there is a problem with your scar, this one year should have allowed plenty of healing that the suction of the Zeltiq CoolSculpting won't interfere with the tissues.

Q: Is Zeltiq CoolSculpting a laser and is it FDA approved?

A: The CoolSculpting device by Zeltiq was given FDA clearance for flanks (love handles). It is not a laser. IT freezes the fatty tissue which makes the fat cells die and the body then metabolizes them. It can melt away about 20% of the volume of fat after one treatment. The majority of patients notice improvement of that level around the four month point. You can redo the procedure to add to your results a few months after the last treatment. It is not a replacement for diet and exercise. It can not do what liposuction or a tummy tuck does and you should have a consultation to determine your candidacy for Zeltiq.

Q: Can Zeltiq be done if I had liposuction six months ago?

A: Yes. Zeltiq is non-invasive and its CoolSculpting technique freezes fat without surgery. So if you have left over fatty bulges after liposuction, Zeltiq can help reduce that fat further. It does not however "fine-tune" lumps after liposuction so if you are unpleased with the result of liposuction with a lumpiness, then you should see your liposuction surgeon to see if a secondary procedure should be considered.

Q: I have to fly for a job to Europe in three days and just had Zeltiq CoolSculpting in NYC a week ago. Is this OK?

A: Yes, since Zeltiq CoolSculpting is not invasive, you may fly. There may be bruising from the procedure but this is not a problem for flying.

Q: I read about Zeltiq CoolSculpting and know it involves the freezing of fat but I also heard about some other procedure for fat removal that uses heat.

A: There are non-surgical alternatives of treatments that heat up the fat but may not be as effective as Zeltiq. There is no study yet comparing these treatments but patient satisfaction is good with Zeltiq.
