CoolSculpting/Zeltiqâ„¢™ - Related FAQ's

Q: Should I get CoolSculpting or Zerona to slim me down?

A: The Zeltiq device that performs CoolSculpting is FDA cleared to reduce fat. The freezing actually kills the fat cells, rather than just extracting fat out of the cell and allowing the fat cell to remain living which can then continue to function by gaining more fat volume. After four months, there is a 20% reduction of fat on average and the treatment can be repeated every two months for a few treatments if desired.

Q: If I have Zeltiq next week can I still go on my vacation to a sunny climate a week later?

A: Yes, there won't be medical reasons you can't travel, but realize that you may have some bruising still at that time. Although the bruise is temporary, it might upset you to have it if you're wearing summery clothing. As the results of the Zeltiq are not immediately visible, you might wish to defer the treatment until your return, but if you wish to have CoolSculpting now there is no problem.

Q: If I have Thermage on my abdomen for skin tightening, can I also get CoolSculpting to reduce fat?

A: Yes. The timing between the two may vary in different medical practices. I would suggest waiting two one to two months between the Zeltiq and Thermage treatments, but in reality, it might be possible to have the Thermage and immediately do a Zeltiq. Studies should be done to investigate this.

Q: If I had Zeltiq two months ago and see improvement but I had a big abdomen, should I have more treatments, and if so, how often?

A: Initially we waited three months to repeat treatments but we have increased the frequency to every two months or greater as some have theorized a better result. Knowing that only 20% is reduced, there isn't a good enough reason to wait for four months to repeat. A theory is that if you create even more stress to the cells before the healing is over, that there could be a more efficient eradication of fat cells the second treatment if it occurs during the inflammatory phase and not the recovery phase.

Q: Can I just hold ice on my love handle to get rid of the fat like Zeltiq?

A: No, this is not the same and you can cause a "burn" to the skin via this freezing.
