CoolSculpting/Zeltiqâ„¢™ - Related FAQ's

Q:I had Zeltiq done one week ago and although I saw good results on the internet prior to having the CoolSculpting done, I now feel like my clothes are tighter. What went wrong?

A: Probably you will see improvement, but as the fat cells are killed by the freezing of the procedure, there are inflammatory cells that are produced by the body to help clear those fat cells away and a by-product of this inflammation is edema, or microscopic dermal water build-up. This is temporary and you shouldn't be discouraged. Most people don't see improvement until the first month or two after the procedure.

Q: I heard that CoolSculpting can make me lose 20% of my fat so if I do it five times will I lose all my fat?

A: No. 20 % loss of the 80% remaining is 16%. Each treatment thereafter, causes less volume reduction as it is the same percent of a lowered amount each time. Furthermore, there could be a gain in weight from improper eating or a lack of exercise suddenly.

Q: I had CoolSculpting three weeks ago and now I have a bigger abdomen. What went wrong?

A: Unless you became a glutton and immediately decreased the amount you exercise, probably nothing went wrong. Fat cells are killed with this treatment and they are destroyed by the body. There can be an inflammatory reaction to help get rid of these cells and that can create swelling.

Q: I had CoolSculpting last week on my abdomen and now not only do I not see improvement, but my pants are tighter in the waist. What happened?

A: Since CoolSculpting kills fat cells, the body mounts an inflammatory response and this creates microscopic swelling in the subcutaneous and dermal tissues. This bulk makes it look like there's no improvement when in reality it might be a good sign that you had significant injury to the fat cells. Normally the 20% fat reduction that was seen by examination occurred at four months.
