CoolSculpting/Zeltiq™™ - Related FAQ's

Q: Will CoolSculpting treat the fat pad above my knee cap?

A: No, not at this time as the applicators are too big for this area, but the company may come out with a better fitting applicator for small areas in the future.

Q: Can Zeltiq help my cellulite?

A: CoolSculpting is not indicated for cellulite. It may help or not induce any change, or even worsen the cellulite appearance. The fatty tissues may show indents of cellulite that might improve when the fat around the indents flattens from the loss effect of the CoolSculpting. If this happens, then it’s a bonus, but not an expected result and one should not have CoolSculpting thinking their cellulite will go away.

Q: Can CoolSculpting work better than Zerona?

A: Zerona can treat wider areas but CoolSculpting actually kills the adipocytes by freezing them whereas the Zerona liquefies the fat cells, but those cells are alive and can regain fat once more. CoolSculpting by Zeltiq may provide longer lasting results, but patients having either procedure are better off to monitor their caloric consumption and exercise.

Q: I am a 45 year old man and have developed large breasts, can CoolSculpting help me?

A: You need to be examined to determine if the breasts are composed mostly of breast tissue or fat. If it is the latter, then possibly CoolSculpting can help if the applicator fits well enough. This would be an off-label procedure.

Q: CoolSculpting can be repeated every two months if desired, for a few treatments. How do I know if I will need several?

A: You are correct that repeated CoolSculpting treatments done two months apart is becoming the norm, but this is for those patients who have a larger amount of fat in the bulge being treated than a thin person with a small bulge. Also, you could space out the repeated treatments more than two months apart.
