CoolSculpting/Zeltiq™™ - Related FAQ's

Q: I heard that CoolSculpting can be done on the abdomen and love handles but I want my outer thighs done, is this possible?

A: Yes, in some patients the applicators that we currently have can fit well on the pocket of fat on the outer thigh, but there may be new applicators in the future that will be designed for the thighs, specifically.

Q: Will CoolSculpting work on my upper arms?

A: You would have to be seen in consultation as different patients have different body shape. The applicator has to fit well on the outer upper arm. There have been good results in some patients. There can be sensitivity for a while after in some rare patients. This is an off-label procedure currently so discuss it with your physician.

Q: Buttocks and CoolSculpting, does it work for thinning the fat?

A: Generally there aren’t good applicators yet for a full buttock treatment. If there is a small pocket of fat, then a current applicator may work.

Q: Can I have CoolSculpting on the inner thigh?

A: Be wary. That area is known to get ripples after liposuction and there aren’t yet any studies of CoolSculpting’s results on the inner thighs. It can be done, but possibly with more sagging than desired…or it may improve the tightness. We will have to wait and see.

Q: I’m concerned that one week after CoolSculpting I’m still puffy. When will I lose the fat?

A: There is some swelling after CoolSculpting that can last a couple of months. It also takes up to four months to lose 20% of the fat. Don’t be discouraged.

Q: Will I get a depression in my fat after Zeltiq?

A: CoolSculpting has not caused depressions that I have seen, nor have been aware of in the literature. The device has safeguards to avoid over chilling and if the suction breaks, then the cycle stops. CoolSculpting tapers the effect on the edge to smoothen the result.

Q: Can CoolSculpting cause diabetes?

A: No. If anything, reducing your fat can help decrease the potential for diabetes.
