CoolSculpting/Zeltiqâ„¢™ - Related FAQ's

Q: I had Zeltiq CoolSculpting on my abdomen and am very happy with my results but I want more to reduce. How soon can I repeat the procedure?

A: Initially I had recommended four months as this was the time at which 80% of the fat was supposed to be removed but with experience we see that clinically two to three months is fine to repeat the procedure on the same area to hasten reduction of the volume of fat.

Q: Is Zeltiq CoolSculpting good for the outer thigh / saddle bags?

A: Liposuction can treat this area very well, but for those patients who want a non-invasive procedure, the Zeltiq can reduce volume in the saddlebags although this is an off-label use at this time. Some patients may need multiple treatments.

Q: I am a 26 year-old male and had liposuction done on my love handles and at the same time, I had fat injected to give me Pecs. The result made me look like a young girl rather than a built male. What can be done?

A: Liposuction may remove some of the fat, but the fat cells may be within the muscle fibers and difficult to remove without creating major trauma to the breast muscle tissue. Zeltiq, although an off-label indication, may thin out the fat by chilling the fat and killing the cells. CoolSculpting works by sucking in the skin and fat and freezing the fat for one hour. There is diminished volume noted over several months and the treatment can be repearted.

Q: If I had liposuction six months ago, can I have Zeltiq CoolSculpting now?

A: Yes, there shouldn't be a problem having Zeltiq six months after liposuction, but you should check with your surgeon first.

Q: I read on line a patient complaining of soreness for a couple of weeks after Zeltiq. She had CoolSculpting on her abdomen and notes it is sensitive. Is this typical of most patients?

A: Some people, not the majority, have some focal areas of tenderness and sensitivity after CoolSculpting. Zeltiq freezes the fat through the skin and this can causes bruising because of the suction, and temporary tenderness that may last a few weeks. Most patients do not consider Zeltiq to have given them any downtime.

Q: I am going on vacation overseas one week from now and have an appointment for Zeltiq scheduled tomorrow. Will the CoolSculpting cause a problem that I should reschedule?

A: You would not be told you couldn't leave on your trip. Keep in mind there may be bruising so you may feel self conscious in a bathing suit for a temporary period up to a few weeks, or as little as a few days if it occurs.
