CoolSculpting/Zeltiq™™ - Related FAQ's

Q: Does CoolSculpting really work?

A: Absolutely, but not in all people. One must be the right candidate for the Zeltiq device to work well. Some patients need a few treatments. A big advantage is the fact that there is virtually no downtime. In others, liposuction is a better procedure to remove more fat at one sitting, but in both treatments, the patients should be in good health, observe a good diet and exercises regularly. In neither treatment, is it a replacement for diet and exercise.

Q: If I lose fat with CoolSculpting, will I put it right back on?

A: Depending on how much fat you lose, and what your calorie intake vs. output is, will make you gain or continue to lose weight. Remember that Zeltiq’s CoolSculpting is not a replacement for diet and exercise and if there is some fat you’re trying to lose, it’s an indication that you are taking in too many calories for your body’s needs. Even if you lose the fat with CoolSculpting, it can come back if you continue to consume more calories than required for your maintenance. Some of the fat can go back in the area that was treated, because not all fat cells die, only part of them. Even with liposuction, not all fat cells are removed, so weight gain can increase fat in the treated and non-treated areas. CoolSculpting should be only part of your contour reduction plan. Make sure you eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly. As the basal metabolic rate (calories needed to operate your bodily functions at rest, e.g. heart contraction, breathing, muscular tone, etc.) decreases with age, your calorie requirement decreases as well so you need to exercise more and eat less as the years proceed.

Q: If I want to repeat my CoolSculpting, how long do I need to wait?

A: If you have had a treatment, then we recommend doing a second, if a second is suggested, at two months. Some people do three or more.

Q: Do I have to worry that CoolSculpting is very unsafe?

A: No. CoolSculpting by Zeltiq received FDA clearance in 2010. There have been no reported serious adverse reactions. Discuss the side effects and risks with your doctor in consultation.
