CoolSculpting/Zeltiq™™ - Related FAQ's

Q: If I don’t receive the improvement I wish from a CoolSculpting treatment, can I still have liposuction?

A: Absolutely! You should allow a minimum of four months to pass after Zeltiq’s CoolSculpting to allow for the maximal improvement and even consider one or two more treatments two months apart before considering Zeltiq not to have worked. Liposuction can be done after the CoolSculpting but there may be more collagen produced as a result of the energy from the Zeltiq device and the liposuction could be more traumatic with more bruising and soreness, but there shouldn’t be a reason it couldn’t improve the fat reduction.

Q: Can I have my double chin treated with CoolSculpting?

A: Not at this time. We have to wait for a smaller applicator but when it is approved, this may be a great treatment for the fat underneath the chin.

Q: Will CoolSculpting work on my buffalo hump of the neck?

A: It may not work as well as surgery because this fatty deposit is often quite fibrous.

Q: Can I risk a stroke by having the CoolSculpting because I have high cholesterol?

A: The Zeltiq device has been shown to be safe and had rigorous testing and those results presented to the FDA showed no elevation of cholesterol.

Q: Can Zeltiq CoolSculpting leave me permanently bruised?

A: It shouldn’t. Bruising by definition is temporary and may last up to three weeks. You should not take blood thinners such as ginko, ginger, ginseng, fish oil, ibuprofen, aspirin nor drink alcohol for a while prior to CoolSculpting. The number of days to avoid these products varies with the product. Usually not for 10 days for aspirin, two days for non-steroidals and one day for alcohol.

Q: I have bad acne scarring but I get hyperpigmented with any trauma, or acne I then get dark. What treatment can help my scars?

A: Hyperpigmentation after trauma can be very difficult to treat in some individuals. Cautious approach, pretreatment testing, pretreatment application of Elure or other lightening cream, sunscreen use and sun avoidance are important aspects of treatment. Fraxel Restore laser treatments can help safely but have risk as do all treatment.
