Explain the science behind Zeltiq™

Zeltiq™ or CoolSculpting™ is a technique where the skin and fat are chilled and the fat cells or adiposities are affected by this cold temperature. The fat cells actually die. This technology was developed when scientists discovered that fat cells are vulnerable to the affects of cold.

CoolSculpting™ works by using a device that is similar to a vacuum. The machine pulls the problem area in between two cold plates. The plates expose the fat tissue to cold temperatures for about an hour. The device actually chills your fat to a temperature just above freezing. The machine does this gradually so that there is no damage to any of the surrounding tissue. The cool temperature causes the fat to crystallize. Then as the fat cells slowly dissolve, your body will metabolize them and get rid of them through a natural process. Because the body is using its own ability to metabolize fat, it will take some time to see the results. Most patients will notice an improvement by the end of two weeks and will see the full benefit by the end of four months.
