Q: If I have Zeltiq this week as scheduled, can I go swimming this weekend?

A: Yes! There would not be any contraindication to swim but you may be obvious with some bruising from the Zeltiq. This bruising disappears in about one to two weeks, rarely three.

Q: I am allergic to lidocaine anesthetic so I was told I can't have liposuction. Could I have Zeltiq CoolSculpture instead?

A: Yes. There is no need for lidocaine anesthetic in Zeltiq. CoolSculpture deals with chilling the fat and as there is no cutting, there is no need for anesthetic. In fact, the chilling is a type of anesthesia.

Q: Does Zeltiq fat reduction come right back? In other words, after one Hostess Twinkie, do you look the same as you did before the Zeltiq?

A: If you lose more than 20% of fat by doing Zeltiq, then you will need to decrease the amount of net calories consumed by 20% per day. You might do this by dieting more or exercising more or both. Otherwise, if you eat the same as before Zeltiq, then the unnecessary calories consumed will be translated into fat storage.

Q: I work out all the time, never eat sweets and watch my carbs. I just can't get rid of my thigh on the side. My mom has the same build. What can I do? Would Zeltiq help?

A: You would need an examination to determine if liposuction or Zeltiq CoolSculpting would be beneficial. Some people are ideal candidates for liposuction but they refuse to have surgery for different reasons. At this time, once I review their medical history and determine after a physical exam that they may diminish their volume of fat in that specific depot, then I discuss CoolSculpting. Zeltiq is a non-invasive procedure, compared with liposuction, and has less risks (although liposuction is safe, there are risks) and minimal down time. You're describing saddlebags which are an off-label use of Zeltiq at this time, although I imagine the company will come out with a specific indication for this area as they did for love handles. Some people have bruises that last longer than others. It is a simple, comfortable (except for the first few minutes) treatment that lasts only one hour per area. Zeltiq is done while you are watching TV, a movie / Netflix, reading or listening to music, or I guess, working on your blackberry or laptop / IPAD. The NYAC has WiFi to keep you connected.
