CoolSculpting/Zeltiqâ„¢™ - Related FAQ's
Q: Will Zeltiq work better than Zerona for fat reduction?A: I am not aware of long term side by side double blind placebo controlled studies investing both the Zerona and Zeltiq devices. Zerona makes the fat cell liberate its fatty content but the cell stays alive to do the same thing again and again, i.e. make more fat. The Zeltiq freezing uses CoolSculpting to kill the fat cells so they can't make more fat. One would expect CoolSculpting to be more long-lasting than Zerona for this reason.
Q: Should I be concerned if I haven't seen my waistline decrease from Zeltiq that I had two weeks ago?
A: No! Initially there can be swelling from the procedure and it takes four months to see 20% reduction. It is not an overnight sensation.
Q: Will my CoolSculpting give me as good a result as liposuction?
A: Some patients who have a minimal excess of fat localized to an area, can get as good an improvement as liposuction, sometimes with a couple or a few treatments with Zeltiq, because liposuction wouldn't remove too much in these individuals. Those with excess fat would not be expected to have as much fat removed as that with liposuction. The advantages of CoolSculpting is no surgery, no downtime. It can be done every two months for a few treatments.
Q: I went to see someone for Zeltiq and they said I could get a good result but when I described it to my friend she said when she had it her device was much larger than what I had. Did the place that treated me just try to save money by using a smaller applicator?
A: In our NYC practice, CoolSculpting costs less with smaller applicators than the large one, but the answer is that only one applicator fits best per area and that's the one that should be used to get the best result. A doctor in our practice sees a patient in consultation to determine that the patient is a candidate for the treatment and indicates which is the best applicator to use per area for that person.
Q: Can I have Zeltiq if I have diabetes?
A: Depending on the area and if there is no neuropathy , there shouldn't be a problem with having CoolSculpting on the abdomen or love handles. Your physicians can discuss where you inject your insulin, if you use insulin, during the day before the procedure and after, if you're more sensitive.
