CoolSculpting/Zeltiq™™ - Related FAQ's
Q: I heard that Zeltiq™ can freeze away fat. I have back rolls. Can Zeltiq™ help me?A: If your back rolls have some fat, then Zeltiq™ Coolsculpting™ may help but if it is just a condition of thick skin that has lost elasticity over time, then the Zeltiq™ may not help enough. On the other hand, we may find that the freezing effect of the dermis may induce more production of your own collagen and this may help tighten the area similar to the methodology of Thermage, but this is unstudied and unproven. Zeltiq™ does help reduce fatty accumulation above the muscle plane.
Q: I have some fat on my lower belly and it just doesn't go away with all my exercise. I may have a sensitivity to anesthetic so I have avoided liposuction. Recently I read about Zeltiq™ Coolsculpting™. Does this really work to remove fat?
A: Zeltiq™ has trademarked the term Coolsculpting™ for its device that chills the fat. Years ago a condition of fat wasting in children's cheeks were noted when they had a frozen popsicle in their mouth for too long, in which the fatty tissue was lost creating a depression in their cheek. This fat atrophy was caused by death of their fat cells. The Zeltiq™ does not require any anesthesia. The Zeltiq™ is applied to the area that you want the fat to be lessened, and suction brings in the skin and fat, like a roll, between two chilling plates. You sit for one hour freezing the fat. Then you go back to your routine day. No dressings, no wound care, no down time. There may be some tenderness, and bruising is expected. Studies were done showing at least 20% reduction of fat seen by four months for many, some more, some less. The fat that is reduced appears to be gone for the long term as those fat cells don't just liberate their fat content and then engorge again. The adipocytes actually die and the body metabolizes them. It's a very convenient procedure. Schedule a consultation to see if it's for you.
