CoolSculpting/Zeltiqâ„¢™ - Related FAQ's
Q: I am not overweight on the scale but I have put a little fat on my flanks. I don't want to change my shape much, nor risk any surgical complications or experience any downtime as I exercise a lot every day and don't want to stop. What can I do?A: You may be a candidate for Zeltiq CoolSculpting, a procedure that takes one hour of your time, per zone of treatment. The fat is chilled and this makes fat cells die. Approximately 80% of patients have demonstrated 20% reduction from this one treatment and the results can be seen at this magnitude around 4 months after treatment, but there is reduction shown already at one month. There is no significant downtime expect for some tenderness and bruising that is temporary.
Q: I want to reduce my fat tummy but I absolutely don't want a tummy tuck or liposuction. Should I have Thermage instead? What is Zeltiq CoolSculpting?
A: No, Thermage would not reduce fat, but it might tighten sagging skin. A better option for you is Zeltiq CoolSculpting which can provide you a reduction in fat volume without surgery by killing the fat cells via chilling them in the device. The skin and fat "roll" is sucked into the Zeltiq and held by this suction for one hour in between two chilling plates. Then over four months there is a loss of fat. After four months, many (not all) have reduction by as much as 20%, some less, some more.
Q: I have more fat on my outer thighs than I want to have but I don't want to have liposuction. What can be done to help me? Could Zeltiq / CoolScultping be done?
A: I have been performing Zeltiq as an off-label use for the last year. It was approved for the use of love handles and lower abdomen, but the applicator can be place carefully on the outer thighs in some individuals and provide a very good result. You need to be seen in consultation because the CoolSculpting technique might not be best for you.
Q: I want to have Zeltiq but I have it schedule one day before I have to give a presentation during which I will be standing for one hour. Will I be able to do that?
A: Absolutely. There are very few patients who note a lot of pain after the treatment. There may be some bruising but that is temporary. You should not hesitate to have the treatment.
