CoolSculpting/Zeltiqâ„¢™ - Related FAQ's

Q: I am overweight and want to have CoolSculpting reduce my belly. Will it help?

A: You would have to be examined, but Zeltiq's coolsculpting doesn't work well on those who are significantly overweight, and liposuction is not a good treatment either. Some or most of the fat, may be around the intestines, where the cannula of liposuction, and the freezing of CoolSculpting can't reach. Diet and exercise is the best for such a condition.

Q: I had a heart attack three years ago. Can I have Zeltiq?

A: CoolSculpting can be quite effective for fat removal. There is no liberation of fatty acids or triglycerides in the blood stream after treatment. The sudden pain that a few patients feel during the application and even the removal process could stimulate a surge of adrenaline which could stress the heart. Usually this is not a concern but if there is any doubt you should check with your cardiologist.

Q: I have a bad curved spine so one flank bulges more than the other. Can I still have CoolSculpting?

A: Yes, Zeltiq can work well on the area that bulges more. Often that's the side of the inner curve of the flank while the other flank that is convex, or curves outwardly, has less bulge because the fat is stretched out.

Q: My doctor said there were four areas I should have done on my abdomen with CoolSculpting. Is this OK?

A: We have many patients that have undergone multiple areas of the abdomen or back during CoolSCulpting by Zeltiq. For the appropriate candidate, such treatment is aimed at treating the fat compartments that contribute to the visible bulge, even if it is lateral (to the side) of the bulge. Patients have noted, as well as the doctors at The NYAC, great results in these individuals.
