CoolSculpting/Zeltiqâ„¢™ - Related FAQ's
Q: I have flabby arms. Can Zeltiq help me?A: A physician can use, as off-label, the smaller applicators if there is a good fit, on the upper arms. Fat reduction may be seen with skin retraction, but if elasticity is deficient, then the skin may hang and not look good.
Q: I just had a baby six months ago and want to know if it's safe to have Zeltiq CoolSculpting on my abdomen?
A: Provided there is no umbilical hernia or other hernia from pregnancy, CoolSculpting can provide good improvement post partum for fat reduction.
Q: My friend and I both had CoolSculpting done by the same practice but she complained much more than I that it hurt. Why?
A: Sometimes there is a bony edge that gets in the way of the applicator and the suction can put pressure on the bony lining. Other times there can be discomfort close to the belly button and some people just have too much tenderness because they have sensitive skin.
Q: I have hypertriglyceridemia and worry about having Zeltiq. Is this a problem for me to remove fat?
A: Having a high level of fat in your blood doesn't mean you can't have CoolSculpting. There have been no reports of Zeltiq liberating quantities of fat by killing the fat cells. The adipocytes are slowly processed after they die so there is not quick dumping of triglycerides in the systemic circulation.
Q: Should I have liposuction or do CoolSculpting?
A: You need to have a consultation to examine your body shape and fat content and distribution, review your medical history, surgical history and current medication taken. Then the benefits, risks, advantages and comparisons of outcome for the different alternatives can be discussed. When a patient knows they just don't want to undergo any type of surgery, or if they take medication that would increase the risk of undergoing liposuction, it would be prudent to consider CoolSculpting as this freezing technique actually kills the fat cells. Multiple, every two months, procedures with Zeltiq can improve the fat reduction, which has been proven to be about 20% at four months from one treatment for the average patient.
Q: I want to have children several years from now but as a woman I am bothered by my fat tummy. Can I have Zeltiq CoolSculpting?
A: Yes. There is not a reason to avoid having CoolSculpting of the abdomen just because you might have children in the future. Certainly, one would avoid the treatment if you were pregnant.
