CoolSculpting/Zeltiqâ„¢™ - Related FAQ's

Q: If I only have a small amount of fat on my love handles, should I do liposuction or Zeltiq CoolSculpting?

A: If the amount of fat is significant, more than 2/3 of an inch between two fingers that pinch the area, then liposuction would be more effective than CoolSculpting. The Zeltiq procedure only reduces fat about 20%, but that is without any surgery and minimal, if any, downtime!

Q: Can I have CoolSculpting by Zeltiq done on my back?

A: The FDA cleared Zeltiq's CoolSculpting for abdomen and love handles. The applicators are designed for those areas, but physicians may perform the treatment on other body sites provided the physician ensures that the applicator can fit over the area. It may not be large enough or may be too large to appropriately cover the area. The company may be manufacturing, in the future, new applicators.

Q: Do I need to diet after CoolSculpting by Zeltiq?

A: As you are considering Zeltiq CoolSculpting you should protect your investment by decreasing your calories consumed and exercising more if possible. The additional fat you have that you're trying to reduce by having Zeltiq, is there because you consume more calories than you spend in exercise and resting metabolic needs. By watching your diet after Zeltiq you may help acquire the best result.

Q: I want to wear a very tight dress this weekend so I thought I would have Zeltiq CoolSculpting now, four days before the event. Does that make sense?

A: No. You will not see improvement in the few days that you have the Zeltiq. In fact, it is normal to swell considerably, for a few weeks after as the body processes the dying fat cells. Over four months there is gradual shrinkage of volume, so this procedure will not make you look thin overnight and you should not reschedule the treatment if you can't afford some puffiness in your clothing during the upcoming weekend.

Q: My friend had Zeltiq CoolSculpting and loves her results already at three weeks but she feels some numbness. Is this normal?

A: Yes, Zeltiq can cause some patchy areas of numbness that can take weeks to even months to resolve itself.

Q: I had surgery on abdomen two years ago for a gall bladder. I now want to have Zeltiq for my belly. Is that a problem?

A: As long as there is no hernia, or an immature scar, the Zeltiq only penetrates to the fat, not muscle layer, so there should be no problem treating over a scar from prior abdominal surgery. If there is any question concerning a hernia, it would be best to check with your surgeon first.
