CoolSculpting/Zeltiqâ„¢™ - Related FAQ's

Q: I weigh about sixty pounds more than I should but I can't lose the weight. I have tried exercise and watch what I eat, but it doesn't come off. I saw a doctor who said liposuction wasn't for me and referred me to a nutritionist but that was too expensive for me. I recently read about Zeltiq and it sounds great. Do you think Zeltiq CoolSculpting can reduce my weight? I certainly like that there's no surgery associated with the procedure.

A: No, if you're not a candidate for liposuction, then you're probably not a candidate for CoolSculpting as Zeltiq won't make the results last if you don't change your diet and exercise regimen. Furthermore, the applicators are only designed currently for the love handles and abdomen. When others are created for upper arms and outer thighs, it still wont' be a good treatment for overall obesity. Zeltiq is designed for an individual who can't lose that last bulge of the lower abdomen or love handle with exercise or diet. About 20% of the volume may decrease in four months.

Q: My friends and I have rented a beach house for a week, two weeks from now. I have an appointment tomorrow for Zeltiq. Will it create any problems for me that I should reschedule it?

A: Most patients develop some bruising which goes away in a week to two. Maybe this is cutting it too close for you. Consider that the average person obtains 20% improvement in reduction of volume in four months after CoolSculpting, it doesn't seem that important to undergo the treatment now. Maybe you should reschedule it for when you come back from your beach vacation so that you're not embarrassed by bruising if it occurs. Please remember to wear a high SPF sunscreen when you're at the beach to prevent skin cancer.

Q: I absolutely refuse to have surgery but I really want to lose my fat in my tummy. I was told that I don't need a tummy tuck but that liposuction would help me. I just don't want the surgery. How could I receive the maximum improvement from Zeltiq CoolScultping so I don't need to have surgery?

A: You would need an evaluation to see if you're a candidate for this treatment. Zeltiq can be done every few months and the treatment's results can be improved my having multiple treatments. Of course the expense adds up, but it still is often less than liposuction even with three treatments.
