Fraxel Treatment New York - I want improvement in my wrinkles. Is a chemical peel or Fraxel laser better?

Chemical peels, unless they are of a deep level which are hardly ever done anymore, do not improve wrinkles much, even the static wrinkles that are not related to underlying muscle movement. Chemical peels are divided into superficial (for exfoliation and helping topical products to work better for skin discoloration and texture) and medium-depth chemical peels that require a week of oozing and peeling and healing. The medium chemical peels can help improve coloration and texture but do not help wrinkles as much as laser resurfacing. Laser resurfacing with carbon dioxide laser, ablative and non-fractional, creates a second-degree burn type of wound as does dermabrasion. These procedures are done much less frequently these days since the evolution of Fraxel Restore, Fraxel Dual and Fraxel Repair lasers. Each of these lasers have their own indications. Fraxel Restore is done as a series of treatments, with minimal down-time. There is redness, some slight swelling for most people and moderate swelling for a few, a flaking or even some “bronzing” of flaking for a few days. The procedure is redone every three weeks for about six treatments. Continued improvement is seen as much as six months after the procedure with deep resurfacing for acne scars. Wrinkles that are static, improve better with Fraxel Repair which is a fractional ablative carbon dioxide laser and the wound heals with less risk than the older non-ablative CO2 laser. It takes as much as two weeks to heal from this laser but as soon as 10- 12 days in some. The Fraxel Dual laser helps pigmentation issues such as freckles and melasma. Patients need to be seen in consultation to determine what type of treatment is most effective for their condition and to learn of the post-procedure protocol and risks.
