I had Juvederm injected in my upper lip yesterday and when I awoke this morning it was so plumped. Should I expect worsening tomorrow?

Fillers in the lower or upper lip can cause significant swelling for the first several days, but as the swelling improves, it can still take a week or more to look reasonable. If it is still too much volume in a week, see your doctor who can inject the lips with hyaluronidase to dissolve the filler.

I read that there was a patient who had Sculptra injected in her lower eyelid and now has a bump more than two years later. Why did this happen?

Sculptra is product that can stimulate collagen formation. It is a mixture, not a solution. It must be mixed and diluted and administered in a well mixed suspension so as not to deliver clumps of product. Even if the technique is excellent, I do not recommend any expert to inject Sculptra in the lower eyelid above the muscle because if a lump, or immune granuloma forms, then it will be visible in this location. Sculptra works amazingly well in the cheeks.

I have Rheumatoid arthritis and want to have a filler injected into my smile folds. Can Juvederm or Restylane be used?

My patients who have rheumatoid arthritis have been able to have both Restylane and Juvederm without incident. I have received authorization from rheumatologists to do such. Both Restylane and Juvederm are hyaluronic acids and we have this in our dermis as a natural occurring substance.

Unfortuantely, the SmartLipo will destroy the fat cells making it nearly impossible to have them survive in the new recipient site. Conventional tumescent liposuction protects the fat cells and they would have a better chance of surviving.
