Fraxel™ - Related FAQ's

Q: After pregnancy my face became very dark brown over the cheeks. Will this go away?

A: Melasma can be very stubborn to treat. Sunblock, Fraxel Dual laser, Retina A, steroid cream, Elure, Lumixyl, and many other treatments exist but they can all exacerbate the brown color if irritation or burning develops, so discuss it with your doctor.

Q: I have large facial pores. Can these be improved?

A: Sometimes, we have success making them look slightly less apparent, but never gone! In some cases there is no improvement and in rare cases, the pores can look more visible. Fraxel Restore is one of the few treatments that I have seen provide improvement in pores.

Q: I had stretch marks since pregnancy 30 years ago on my tummy. What will help?

A: The only thing I have found to occasionally help is Fraxel Restore laser resurfacing. It does not make them go away completely and in some patients there is no improvement.

Q: I had a laser treatment on my face for wrinkles and now I have dark spots. What should I do?

A: You need to be seen by your doctor to evaluate how deep the pigment is. Topical therapy with multiple products may help, including Elure or Revale or prescription hydroquinone, Retin-A (tretinoin), and topical cortisone. Chemical peels (light) may help and eventually possibly Fraxel Dual laser. Sunblock is crucial to your success and sun avoidance.

Q: What can be done for the wrinkles of my lower eyelids?

A: Usually, chemical peels are not as effective as laser resurfacing. Skin removal with blepharoplasty can help but often the texture still needs to be improved with laser such as Fraxel Repair, Fraxel Restore or the old fashioned CO2 laser resurfacing.

Q: My wedding is in 10 months. Can I get my acne scars treated before then to make them look better?

A: Depending on the type of acne scars, you may need one of many or several treatments including, punch grafts, Dermabrasion, scar excision, Fraxel Restore laser or Fraxel Repair laser. Ice pick, crater and box car scars respond to different types of treatments. Fraxel Restore laser can improve craterform scars with multiple treatments and very little down time. Some people are prone to darkening skin color and this could be a concern. Be cautious and consult with an expert laser surgeon who has a lot of experience with acne scar revision. Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation may have to be treated with lightening creams such as hydroquinone, Elure, Lumixyl, Revale, azelaic acid, licorice root and others along with chemical peels and sunscreen use.
