Fraxel™ - Related FAQ's

Q: Will I be able to have laser resurfacing on my acne scars with Fraxel in the peak of the summer when it's my only time to take off?

A: Yes. As long as you do not expose yourself directly to sun while healing, and that you use sunscreen on the healed skin and continue to protect it for a long time after the laser, your doctor would probably approve it.

Q: I hate my brown sun spots and am developing wrinkles. Should I have a chemical peel or Fraxel laser?

A: The chemical peel might help reduce the brown spots but typically, the chemical peel, unless a deep peel which is rarely done these days because of side effects, does not improve the wrinkles. Fraxel Dual laser was designed for this specifically. There are two wavelengths in this laser. The 1550nm does help reduce the brown coloration but its main focus is the collagen build up of the dermis and smoothening texture. The 1927nm wavelength helps reduce the brown more effectively.

Q: I want to have Fraxel Repair laser treatment for my acne scars as I was told that the CO2 laser was best for my skin but I am allergic to aquaphor and that is what my doctor said I have to use after my laser. What can I do?

A: I would have my patient test themselves to the TNS Skin Medica Ablative Kit products which are designed to be applied to the recently resurfaced skin. The restorative ointment is meant to be applied for the first several days. Try a dime-sized area one morning, then a slightly wider area the next day until you are applying it to the majority of the face one day, without irritation. If you do react to that, then you may need to be referred for patch tests to a standard tray of allergens to see which products stimulate the greatest reaction in your skin.

Q: I am having Ultherapy in one week on my face and neck but my friend just had Fraxel Can I have both treatments on the same day?

A: Yes you can, but the risks might be slightly greater depending on how many lines of treatment you have with Ultherapy and if the 1.5mm. superficial transducer is used. That is because there might be small welts from the superficial ultherapy and the Fraxel laser induces swelling too. The combination may make your face much more swollen than if you only had Fraxel. It might be prudent to separate the Ultherapy and Fraxel by at least one day if you need to minimize the extent of downtime. Normally Ultherapy has no downtime and Fraxel Restore has minimal downtime, but by combining Ultherapy and Fraxel, you may end up avoiding certain social functions for several days.
