Juvederm New York - What is Juvederm™?

Juvederm™ is a Hyaluronic acid that is used by dermatologists as a dermal filler. Juvederm™ is very similar to Restylane™ since it is used to pump up patients' skin. Further, it is a very clear and smooth gel which binds with the water in the dermis layer of the skin to make the overlying skin wrinkle-free, smoother and less noticeable.

Chemically, Juvederm™ is known as mucopolysaccharides, which means that it is a sugar-water molecule. A mucopolysaccharide is derived from a process known as recombinant therapy. Therefore, the contents of Juvederm™ do not come from an animal source, which is a big advantage, and it matters a great deal as well.

In the past, the collagen used for dermatological treatments came from cows. Similarly, even the first Hyaluronic acids were actually derived from animals. However, that is no longer the case and when the Restylane™ and Juvederm™ brands of Hyaluronic acid based fillers evolved, the resulting product was much more pure, requiring no skin test prior to use.

An ideal candidate for Juvederm™ is very similar to a patient who is ideal for Restylane™. However, there are some subtle differences. Patients should know that Juvederm™ is a smoother product and Restylane™, on the other hand, is somewhat more particulate. So clinically, there are instances where doctors find that Restylane™ is slightly more firm to the touch than Juvederm™. Most dermatologists prefer using Juvederm™ in more superficial areas so that a more homogenous and smooth texture can be achieved.

Moreover, in terms of the plane, the depth of Juvederm™ and Restylane™ injections are the same. Therefore, Juvederm™ can be used to treat areas like the eyebrow, the tear trough of the lower eyelid, the smile fold and other subtle areas of depressions like the crease between the jowl and the chin.
