Q: Can the red blood vessels around the crease of my nostril be treated?A: These capillaries or telangiectases are often considered to be part of rosacea, but in this anatomical region, the nostril creases, most people have these blood vessels. They are easily treated with the Vbeam laser but will need ongoing treatment as new ones grow whether the old ones are treated or not.
Q: In my country when I was a child, I had a tribal tattoo made on my dark skin. The scar is even darker than my normal skin and it bothers me here in the U.S. Can laser erase my scars?
A: No. Unfortunately, the laser can only, hopefully, improve the scar but it can’t be erased completely. This also applies to surgical scars. If there is a postinflammatory hyperpigmentation then a laser designed to treat pigment can be used. Some are specific for pigment, others are for resurfacing the texture of the skin/scar, but it is impossible to completely replace the scar with excellent normal skin. You will need an in-person consultation with an expert in scar revision who has surgical and many different laser options available.
Q: I want to get rid of my tattoo for my prom. I had a tattoo on my arm a year ago and I will have my prom next year. I hate my tattoo. It is black, and about the size of my palm. Can it be gone before my prom?
A: It can take 10 or more treatments with laser tattoo removal, but this is safer than surgery or Dermabrasion which will leave a scar.
Q: Do I have to wear eye protection during V-beam laser treatment of facial red blood vessels?
A: Yes. All patients must wear protective eyewear during laser treatment. This is important regardless of the type of laser. Although eye injury could not occur unless the laser were applied or directly aimed at your eye, you might inadvertently move during treatment, such as with sneezing, or the laser misfire by human error (which rarely, if ever happens) and your eye goggles would protect you should this occur.
