Q: I weigh 50 pounds more than I feel I should be at. Can liposuction help?

A: Liposuction is not a substitute for diet and exercise. You would probably regain most of your weight after liposuction. It also is not as safe to do liposuction on someone whose health is not as good as optimal. A: You may be an ideal candidate. Young, healthy, family history of excess fat deposited in one are that is not amenable to reduction with diet and exercise. Tumescent liposuction is a safe procedure but there are risks so discuss this with your surgeon.

Q: Despite my attempt at going to the gym and avoiding dessert, I can’t reduce this bulge in my tummy. Should I consider liposuction?

A: There are many factors to review when considering if a patient is a candidate for liposuction. Is your health good? Are you on medication that can jeopardize the safety of the procedure? What is your shape and is there a component of a muscle bulge rather than fat? You should schedule a consultation with a board-certified dermatologic surgeon or plastic surgeon to determine if liposuction for you.

Q: I had liposuction on my outer legs and I have a depressed spot. What can be done?

A: Fat injections can be harvested from an area on you with local anesthetic and implanted as a fat graft in the depressed area. This may take a few, not just one treatment in some patients, a few months apart. There can be very long term correction once the fat lives in its new environment.
