Radiesse™ - Related FAQ's

Q: I had read on the internet that someone had Radiesse injected near their eyelid but it caused a lump. As I am scheduled to have a Radiesse injection I wonder what can be done if this happens?

A: Radiesse is not a hyaluronic acid as is Juvederm and Restylane. The Radiesse can't be dissolved by hyaluronidase so it is important to have an expert conservative physician inject your Radiesse. Small amount are laid down in a slow technique and multiple passes rather than one big deposit. If lumps form, the doctor must make sure they are not infections or allergic in nature, which is very rare, but then you must be patient to have time lessen the lumps although massaging the area may help.

Q: I know that Radiesse is meant for deeper planes than Restylane or Juvederm but does this mean that I will feel it more?

A: Resylane and Juvederm bind water but Radiesse acts as a filler because of its own molecular structure. It is more viscous and firm than the hyaluronic acid fillers. Usually, it is felt as a more indurated, firm, correction but should not feel rock hard.

Q: I had Radiesse injected by a physician in another state when I was traveling. Now I feel a lump. Can anything be done?

A: Depending on how long ago it was done, deep massaging can help in the first day. No chemical is used to dissolve the filler. Some physicians have found that injecting the lump with saline under pressure can break up the lump. Rarely, the lump could be bothersome enough to warrant a surgical removal but this might leave a scar and is reserved for the worst or most upsetting cases.

Q: I had Radiesse injected and four months later I still have good results but my skin is often quite red and warm where it was injected. What can this be?

A: You may or may not have an inflammatory reaction, or even a subclinical infection. See your doctor for a full evaluation

Q: My cousin has large cheeks two years after Radiesse and although she looks better than before, it does look artificial and she wishes it to be removed. How would that be done?

A: Radiesse can't be dissolved or easily removed. A scar would result from surgery. Furthermore, it might look better over time without treatment as more dissolves.
