Radiesse™ - Related FAQ's

Q: Many years ago, when Radiesse very first came to market, I had my lips injected. I like the result but I have one lump that is very firm and has persisted all these years. Can it be dissolved like Restylane?

A: No, unfortunately there is no enzyme, unlike the hyaluronic acids Restylane and Juvederm, that have hyaluronidase that will dissolve them, that is designed for Radiesse. Initially, the Radiesse can be injected with sterile saline if alump forms. This breaks it into many tiny particles. This late, you will need a surgical excision which can heal very well, although there will be a small scar.

Q: I had Radiesse injected a few weeks ago but don't like the result in my cheek, Can I have it dissolved as one can dissolve Juvederm?

A: NO, unfortunately, the Radiesse will last for about one year and there is nothing to dissolve it. If there is one little bump then maybe sterile saline injected under pressure right in the middle of this lump will help, but I have no personal experience with this correction treatment.

Q: What can be done with Radiesse that I don't like?

A: If there is one focal bump, then your doctor can try injecting sterile saline under pressure right in the middle of the lump.

Q: I had Radiesse injected two weeks ago and ever since, I had a tiny bump located near the surface. How can this be treated?

A: If it is considered to be a drop of product, then a tiny stab incision with an 18G needle or 11-blade is done and extraction of the nodule might be able to be accomplished.

Q: I had Radiesse injected into many areas of the face and had a slight swelling increase the next day. The color of the skin became red and it hurt starting a week later. Is this a possible infection?

A: Yes, a new onset of swelling and pain several days after treatment may represent an infection and you should see your MD right away!

Q: If I don't want surgery but I want to fix the profile of my nose is there a way to do this with lasers or filler?

A: Fillers including Radiesse, Juvederm and Restylane have been used to temporarily change the contour of the nose. In a few minutes the humps can be made to appear smoother on profile by filling in the concavity or depression above it. The tip of the nose can be sculpted and lifted by the use or Restylane or Juvederm. These hyaluronic acids can be dissolved if you don't like the result, but the effect of the Radiesse lasts until it goes away on its own, which is slightly more than one year for some people.
