Restylane™ - Related FAQ's
Q: Can I have a filler replaced the day after hyaluronidase is injected to dissolve the filler I just had by a different doctor? My lips are too big.A: It is possible, that a small amount, or a diluted amount of hyaluronidase may bring down the volume that would please you. But if the augmentation was not done aesthetically-pleasing, then the hyaluronidase should be done to dissolve all the filler and then wait a while to allow the inflammation to resolve. For some people they may be ready for more filler in several days, and others may have sensitivity requiring more time before it would be prudent to reinject the Restylane or Juvederm.
Q: I want to get Restylane injected but I have very sensitive skin, is this a problem?
A: The Restylane should not create a reaction in your skin, however if you’re very easily bruised, then you might see some bruising after the injections. Also, if you react to products, then you might react to a numbing cream that is often applied prior to the injections. Discuss this with your doctor.
Q: I had Restylane injected into my lips and they looked great, but now, one day later, they are very swollen. What can I do to make them look better?
A: Swelling is not abnormal in the lips after injections with Juvederm or Restylane but some patients have an excessive amount starting later that day or the next day. Don’t exercise, use icepacks (ask your doctor how long and how frequently), limit your salt intake and see your doctor if it gets worse. As long as there is not a possibility of over-correction, then hyaluronidase injections would not be expected to improve the appearance. Your doctor can prescribe a short course of anti-inflammatory corticosteroid medicine but as there can be side effects of this medication, it is important that your doctor tells you if its worth the risk for your condition.
Q: I want my tear troughs filled in to lessen the groove underneath my eyelid. What can I do? Should I have laser resurfacing?
A: Fillers work very well here if injected underneath the muscle so as to reduce the manipulation of the skin which might show more lumpiness if the filler was injected on top of the muscle. There is a significant advantage of using Restylane or Juvederm hyaluronic acid fillers in these areas, in that there is a chemical, hyaluronidase, that can be injected to dissolve the filler if there is lumpiness, overcorrection or a complication. This can’t be done if Radiesse or Fat Injections were done around the eyelids.
