What does Sculptra™ do? What is it used for?
One of the reasons for needing a facelift is not merely because the skin sags due to gravity, but because it has lost its infrastructure, which is the fatty layer underneath the skin that holds it together. We all lose fat in the inner and middle cheeks, nose, temples, in the eyebrow arch, and in the chin. When this happens, the skin loses its elasticity and starts to drop or sag. For example, the skin starts to fall over the eyebrow, with the eyelid coming with it, when this happens it obstructs the upper field of vision. When the temples sink in, you start to look sickly. When the cheeks fall in, the skin hangs over the smile crease magnifying this change. The skin also creates a jowl over the jaw. The chin area that gets wasted tends to fall and affect how the skin looks without using fillers or volume. Sculptra™ is a treatment that can help you with these skin problems.Sculptra™ is a volume augmenting procedure that acts like a seed. When the Sculptra™ is planted in a patient, you can watch the patient’s collagen grow. Sculptra™ is made of the same material used to make dissolving stitches. It’s in a powder form and is mixed with water and an anesthetic prior to injecting. It is usually mixed with water at least 24 hours prior to the treatment, and then the anesthetic is added just before the patient’s treatment.
This liquid is implanted in large volumes that carry the particles of Sculptra™ that get laid down where your doctor wants them. After a day or two, the volume of liquid gets absorbed by your body and it leaves the seed within a blanket of skin. Sculptra™ is therefore a seed for volume, but not an immediate filler.
