Who is a good candidate for Sculptra™?

Sculptra™ is a form of injection which is used as a means of treatment to pump up the skin. This causes the skin to inflate and the body’s response to the product is very dependent on the volume of depletion that the patient has and his or her age. Sculptra™ is a seed for volume and it is not an immediate filler. The results take time to appear. But there may be patients with pressing work responsibilities who do not want the treatment downtime interfering with their schedule, and want a treatment to make them look their best immediately. These people are not ideal candidates for Sculptra™. The immediate fillers such as Radiesse, Juverderm, Restylane, and Perlane™ make more sense for those patients who need immediate results.

Sculptra™ can create bumps similar to all the other fillers. These bumps could be hard little nodules that are not visible. They can only be felt and the treatment for these bumps might even include injecting of a saline solution at high pressure in order to squirt up the bump and break it apart. The bumps may also have to be surgically removed, but this is not common. However, it is important to understand the possible implications prior to the treatment. The granulomas which are caused after a period of about nine months as an immune reaction to the product should not be considered as an implication.

In some cases, bruising is also a possibility. This is because a slightly larger needle is used when injecting into deeper tissue. In some cases, it may take up to two weeks for full post-treatment recovery from the bruises. Patients whose lifestyle does not get affected much due to the longer recovery period are good candidates for Sculptra™ treatment.

However, it is vital that you have a clear understanding of any potential complications. So talk to your doctor about the treatment and how suitable you are to undergo Sculptra™. The right candidate for Sculptra™ is someone who is properly educated on the possible complications and the downtime associated with the treatment.
