“Dear Dr. Weaver,

Thank you very much for everything that you have done to enhance my outside beauty. When I first stepped foot into your office, I knew that my dream of having clearer skin would then become more than just a dream. It would now be a reality. Without you, Dr. Weaver, I would not have the confidence that I now possess and could not have made it as far in my career path as I have. I can truly and sincerely say you are my “Facial Angel”. At the age of 15, I had a low self esteem and never thought that I would ever be in a relationship with anyone who would accept me and “all my acne”. But now at the age of 23, I have someone who loves me for me and is also grateful to you for all that you have and will continue to do for me and us. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You are a God’s Facial/body helper for me and many like me. May God continue to bless you, your family, and your business. Thank you so much”

Blue Light Acne Treatment

What is blue light acne treatment?

This amazing technology enables you to maintain smooth, clear skin without the need for topical acne treatment. Breakouts are caused by bacteria, known as P. acnes. Specific wavelengths of blue light kill the P. acnes bacteria by creating free radicals. This safe, effective procedure can be used as corrective treatment for active blemishes, or as preventive measures to keep inactive sebaceous glands from becoming infected. This technology is also used to lessen the flushing and general redness associated with rosacea.

Treatment at Dr. W Dermatology

The procedure begins with gently cleansing your skin to ensure there is no residual skin oil or cosmetics. Blue light is applied to the skin for approximately eight to sixteen minutes. You may feel a gentle warming sensation, but you should experience little or no discomfort. Several sessions are required to achieve clear, healthy skin. It usually takes a series of six treatments, scheduled about a week apart.

Woman's Face After Treatement for Acne

We may recommend the use of a specially formulated photosensitizer called Levulan. It is a topical agent containing ALA (aminolevulinic acid), which is readily absorbed by the pores, oil glands, and abnormal cells. This technique, known as PhotoDynamic Therapy, makes the areas more susceptible to blue light, increasing the effectiveness of treatment. It may cause peeling or redness, similar to sunburn, for a couple of days following treatment. It is important to note that the treated area will be exceptionally sensitive to intense light and UV rays for about 48 hours. You will be advised to wear broad-spectrum sunscreen with a minimum SPF rating of 30 for at least two days.

Benefits of PhotoDynamic blue light acne treatment

This treatment is a great example of how modern technology is making dermatological treatment safer, gentler, and more effective than ever. The benefits include:

  • No adverse side effects.
  • Completely non-invasive.
  • Can be used by patients of any age.
  • Safe and gentle enough for daily use.
  • No down time.
  • Completely painless.
