How laser tattoo removal works:

  • Lasers remove an unwanted tattoo by breaking up the ink. We use a Nd:YAG Med-Lite C-6 laser device. This model can treat all pigment colors.
  • The laser emits pulses of light. This intense light will be absorbed only by the pigment colors in your tattoo.
  • Multiple sessions are required. The age, size, and color(s) of the tattoo determines how many sessions are required for you. After each session, your tattoo will become lighter.
  • Each session will begin with cleansing the tattoo to maximize light penetration. Dr. Weaver uses a topical anesthetic to ensure your comfort. Typically, patients feel a mild stinging during the procedure.

Aftercare:

  • An ice pack can be used if necessary to soothe the treated area.
  • Sunblock for any exposed areas.
  • Antibiotic cream and bandages may be used following each treatment.

Factors determining successful tattoo removal:

  • Color. Black and red are the easiest to remove. Yellow, blue, and green dyes can be more resistant to treatment.
  • Age of the tattoo. Older tattoos can be harder to remove.
  • Location. Tattoos on feet and legs are be slightly harder to remove.
