During this unsettling time, we wanted to reach out to our patients and reassure you of our commitment to maintaining a safe, clean environment at Noble Cosmetic Surgery, because providing a safe and healthy environment for our patients and staff has been our top priority. Additionally, please take note of the following:
  • As a cosmetic medicine facility, we typically do not service sick patients. Our patients are electing to have procedures that are not medically necessary, so your risk of running into an ill patient is lower than that of other healthcare facilities.
  • Our surgeries and other treatments are performed in our private facilities that are used purely for elective treatments.
We continue to monitor the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, and are actively following the guidelines and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO) as well as our local, state and federal government agencies. Our usual guidelines include universal precautions, frequent handwashing, and frequent sanitizing of all patient areas. For the most up-to-date information, please check the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website about this evolving situation, how to reduce the risk of spreading illness, travel health notices, and more.

The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus. Currently, as the coronavirus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person, we have now adopted several enhanced safety measures to decrease the risk of exposure to you and the community which include the following:
  • Please wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use the hand sanitizers provided when you enter our offices.
  • If you are feeling unwell or anyone in your household may have been exposed to COVID-19 through travel or attendance at large gatherings less than two weeks ago, please call us at your earliest convenience so we can reschedule you!
  • If you need to cough or sneeze, do so into the crease of your elbow, and then immediately wash your hands.
  • Know the symptoms of Coronavirus: tiredness, fever, weakness, shortness of breath and diarrhea. This virus is lower respiratory focused, so you may not have upper respiratory symptoms like a runny nose, sore throat, and congestion.
  • Take these additional preventive actions to stop the spread of germs-(wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth, clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces).
We hope that each of you will stay safe & healthy as we navigate this complex situation together.

Sincerely,
Dr. Obasi & his staff at Noble Cosmetic Surgery

Gynecomastia Q & A

Typically, male breasts feature underlying muscle tissue that’s thicker than the outer fat layer. When the balance of natural levels of testosterone and estrogen changes in a male, that fat layer may thicken and create breasts with a feminine appearance. The condition may affect one or both breasts, evenly or unevenly.

Young men are usually more affected by gynecomastia. As testosterone production drops with age, about one-quarter of men between 50 and 69 will also develop the condition. Frequently, gynecomastia decreases as hormone balance returns to normal, but there is a chance it will persist or become symptomatic, which may require treatment.

There are some cases where gynecomastia occurs as a side effect of medications, health conditions, or substance issues.

There are typically two general surgical approaches to gynecomastia. The first is liposuction of fat tissue in the breast itself. Liposuction targets the fatty tissue in the breast, but usually doesn’t target glandular tissue, though there are exceptions, depending on individual cases.

Tissue excision addresses more severe cases of the condition, mainly when more glandular tissue is the target, and excess skin removal is required.

Surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure with tumescent liposuction, under local or general anesthesia, and takes about one to two hours. The persistent fibrous gland is removed through a small periareolar incision.

Using small tubes, Dr. Obasi loosens and suctions away fat and glandular tissue. He also sculpts the area to provide the shape and contour of a natural, masculine-looking chest.

In the end, you’ll have a more masculine chest.

Most patients can return to light activities a few days after surgery. You can resume exercises and rigorous activities in about five weeks, and you’ll also wear compression vests for two to three weeks.

Swelling and bruising are common and resolve within a few weeks. You might experience a loss of sensation in some areas of your chest, but this is almost always temporary.

It may take few months after the procedure to see the full results after the swelling has resolved. Patients with good skin elasticity and realistic expectations see the best results. To maintain your results, make sure to avoid extreme weight gain or loss, and to engage in a healthy lifestyle.
