Melbourne area residents ask what to expect from the dental implant procedure

If you have lost one or more teeth, you have probably heard of dental implants. They are the most highly recommended tooth replacement solution in the Melbourne area, and around the world. Implant technology revolutionised the world of dentistry, providing the first-ever way to replace the entire tooth, including the root. No longer do patients have to contend with loose, uncomfortable dentures. Replacing a single missing tooth does not require grinding down and capping other teeth. Bone erosion, which naturally occurs after tooth loss, can be slowed or stopped. All of this is possible because of a tiny device that made big changes in dentistry, the dental implant.

A whole solution

What is so different about implants? They allow us to replace the entire tooth. A traditional denture or bridge actually only replaces the tooth crown, which is the part above the gum line. A complete tooth continues below the gum line. Implants are the only tooth replacement solution that include the root

Implants are best-known for their stability. There are no restricted foods or fear of embarrassing moments caused by loose appliances. Implants also offer a number of health benefits. As implant-supported restorations duplicate the anatomy and functionality of living teeth, they promote good bone health, facial aesthetes, and much more.

What to expect

Placing an implant is a simple and comfortable process. We begin with a comprehensive examination to ensure that you are a suitable candidate. We use the latest technologies for our dental implant process. We create a surgical guide and use this during the oral surgery, so that your implants are placed perfectly. For most types of restorations, we will need to wait for healing (about three months) before we proceed to the next step. Many patients are surprised to discover that there is little to no pain during the healing phase. Once this is complete, the final restoration is added, and your brand new smile is ready to go!

Implants and any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. We will discuss the risks of the procedure during your consultation as well as examine your health to ensure you are a suitable candidate for implants. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
